“Rosie Revamped”
Acrylic and Collage on 12 x14 wood pannel
"Rosie Revamped" is a modernist take on "Rosie The Riveter". In this piece, I explore the idea of how our society holds value in beauty. I researched Norman Rockwell's tomboyish version of Rosie compared to J. Howard Miller's iconic "We Can Do It!" interpretation of her. The well-known Rosie is the more sexualized version of her. I came across a December 1959 edition of Modernman magazine where Jane Dolinger does a featured spread. Her topless pose, serious expression, and bandana provided me with the perfect base for reimaging Rosie. It is only fitting that a 2024 Rosie would be topless and covered in colors!
