Fragments of Growth

For this series, which I have titled “Fragments of Growth” I began by asking myself: What has to die to make room for new life, or should I say new art? Print and papermaking are both mediums that produce plenty of excess materials. How can I as an artist reuse and recycle these paper discards? Collage and making old paper into new paper has been a way for me to repurpose these materials.

Growth has been a theme I've been exploring since I started my time at The University of Georgia. When I think about piecing together old works into new works, this transformation of dead materials is parallel to the emotional growth that my practice brings to me. I am constantly considering the idea of putting myself back together through my work. I once was “dead” but my practice “rebirthed” me. Ocd is also something I deal with daily. I find creating patterns and organization to be therapeutic, finding order in the mess of discards, finding order in the family of wood panels, and finding order between every brushstroke.
